Medical School Admission Criteria

Although specific course requirements may differ, the basic selection criteria considered by all medical schools are similar. It is important to demonstrate academic excellence, acquire health profession experience, and exhibit a strong record of community service and campus leadership. Research experience is encouraged, and often required.

If you plan to apply to an allopathic (M.D. granting) medical school,  consult the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC ) website.

The AAMC is the organization responsible for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS), and the Medical School Admission Requirements (MSAR) database. MSAR serves as an official guide for all accredited allopathic medical schools in the U.S. and Canada.

If you are planning on applying to Texas allopathic medical schools, all the schools with the exception of Baylor College of Medicine use the Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service (TMDSAS).
